Futsal Soccer Tournament

13th Mar 2020

On Wednesday 11th March, two teams attended a Futsal Soccer tournament in the Omagh Leisure Centre. A fantastic day was had, with both teams competing well.

The girls' qualified from their group with a win against a young Killyclogher team, a draw against Castlederg and only one loss against beaten finalists Strabane, to make it through to the semi-finals against a strong, well drilled team from Omagh Integrated. Unfortunately they were to lose out on a place in the final when their semi-final match finished 2-0 to Omagh Integrated.

In the girls' team, Chloe McGale, who trains with Northern Ireland, and who is one of three P6s in our team, played superbly, at times playing in goals, in midfield and also upfront. Amy Campbell was a rock in defence, while younger sister, Aine-Rose (who was our player of the tournament) and fellow P6 classmate Keira McGuigan ran their socks off with determined displays in midfield.

Anna Clarke and Cora Graham used their athleticism to cover every patch of the pitch, with all the girls performing with a 'Never say die' attitude.

With only Chloe playing for a soccer club (Tummery Athletic) the girls were always going to be up against it, playing against girls that play soccer regularly, but team coach, Karen McLaren, couldn't have been more proud of their displays.  Well done girls.

The boys' first game was against a brilliant Strabane team, who eventually made it through to the final. Several of their players train with the Northern Ireland team and so it was 'backs to the wall' for most of the game. There was some fantastic defending, with Matthew Barrett in particular, playing brilliantly and Cormac McCusker putting in a brave and determined display in goals, but unfortunately the boys couldn't prevent Strabane from twice putting the ball in the back of the net.

The boys' next opponents were a young team from Killyclogher, which they managed to beat well, with a hat-trick of well taken goals from Shea O'Donnell.

Their final group game was against another strong team. This team were from Castlederg and although they beat the boys by the narrowest of margins, they went on to win the final, beating Strabane.

The boys played one final game against a team from Eskragh, which they managed to beat convincingly with a brace of goals from Aidan Nestor, Shea O' Donnell and further goals from Shea McCaffrey, Sean McCusker and Pearse O'Kane. Meanwhile, Matthew Barrett, who was our player of the tournament, with some 'last ditch' defending prevented the other team from scoring.

A very enjoyable day was had by all concerned and all boys and girls represented All Saints' superbly, showing good manners and great sportsmanship throughout the day. Well done to one and all.
